IGV Privacy Policy

We respect the privacy of all IGV users, and we do not collect any user information except in the situations listed below.

  • When IGV starts, it fetches version information from an IGV server. We log the date and time, the version number of the IGV that was started, and the IP address of the workstation running it.
  • If IGV is embedded in a web page using igv.js, the web address (URL) of the web page is also logged when IGV is run.

We do not attempt to tie any of this information back to the user, nor do we give, share, sell, or transfer this information to third parties. We only use this information in the aggregate to generate statistics to assist in securing continued funding for IGV, and for progress reports to our funding agencies.

This policy may change from time to time, and if it does, we will update this page and post a notification on the IGV user forum.

Note that IGV supports displaying data tracks that can embed links to external websites (not part of IGV). For example, a feature track may provide a link to an external gene information source, such as https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene. Once you click on such a link, you are subject to the privacy policy of that website.
